Reiki can be used to treat the following:
- Reiki creates balance and relaxes the trauma patient.
- Hemorrhaging
- Burns
- Allergic attacks (including asthma)
- Shock
- Seizures
- Anxiety attacks
- For skilled and trained personnel it can assist the injured person until medical help arrives.
- Reiki can be used to alleviate job stress on a daily basis for emergency services personnel. Professionals employed in emergency work suffer job related anxiety, burn out and stress by the very nature of their employment and also because of the negative environment in which they often work. Reiki can be accessed at any time by a trained person by applying one's hand(s) to one's solar plexus or another part of the body and it will work even while one is talking on the phone, filling in forms, etc. without conscious effort. Reduction of stress and promotion of balance and health are central to Reiki. These skills are in great need and short supply by over stressed police (and other) medical and emergency personnel.
- Emergency services departments will potentially experience fewer sick days and better morale in precincts and departments staffed with trained Reiki practitioners. Also, it would be very effective to provide a small Reiki room for a Reiki master/practitioner to offer regular Reiki healing sessions to police and emergency services personnel coming off duty and for those who have sustained anxiety and/or minor injuries during shifts.
- Reiki has helped those who wish to give up addictive habits. Reiki gets to the root cause of addictive behavior in those who wish to detoxify and heal their (alcohol or cigarette, etc.) addictions. How many person/hours could be saved at taxpayer's expense by offering personnel Reiki training and job site sessions?
- Reiki can (and has been) used to diffuse emotional situations, both those in close quarters and those at a distance. The potential for use of these skills in police work is obvious in critical situations (e.g. with disturbed individuals, those threatening to do harm to themselves or others, and those caught in commission of crimes, etc.). Reiki can be a critical tool in saving the life of an officer or a civilian. Reiki trained officers can use their skills to diffuse minor disturbances such as fights over parking spaces, etc. A swat team would undoubtedly find Reiki an invaluable tool to augment training skills in very dangerous and unstable situations. Reiki creates balance in people, places and situations.
- Reiki can be used to change the atmosphere or cleanse vibrational energies in a space or room. Police stations typically contain numerous negative interactions of disgruntled citizens or crime victims who utilize police services, also, accused criminals are detained in police stations. Because of this, the atmosphere in most urban police stations is very negative and this affects both the police and the public who enter these premises.
- Those who recognize these "negative vibrations" and who are Reiki trained can project positive energy into their work and public spaces. I have personally used Reiki at fractious civic meetings and noticed the calming and balancing effects. And police work begins with "hunches." Reiki trained police officers can expect to have the same enhanced intuitive skills that many Reiki practitioners have noticed over the years.
The Use of Reiki in Fire Departments
l. Firefighters are frequently confronted with emergency situations similar to police and EMS and to some extent their roles overlap. Under these circumstances, much of what has been applied to police and EMS (above) may be applied to Reiki training of fire fighters. Additionally, there has been (in the past) some fractious and destructive competition between city services personnel in fire and police departments, particularly. Since Reiki creates balance in people and situations, it can also be used to balance bureaucratically competitive enclaves.
2. Reiki techniques have been used to save lives in cases of emergencies. Therefore, Reiki can and has been used as emergency treatment for burns and breathing difficulties. This has obvious application to fire fighters and the general public which they serve.
3. Reiki functions to detoxify and balance the body. In its healing modality, Reiki can restore an injury to full function in a fraction of the time which healing might have been expected. For example, I chip fractured my pelvis one year and I was up and walking without assistance (despite the doctors projection of several weeks) in five days. An injured fire fighter who receives a lot of Reiki, will most likely heal in a much accelerated manner.
4. Since Reiki enhances intuitive abilities (as mentioned above) it has the capacity to save lives in dangerous situations. This is applicable to fire fighting and arson investigation, both of which are functions of urban fire departments.
Conclusion
The incorporation of Reiki training for emergency services personnel has a tremendous potential to effect changes in the way that these services are carried out. Reiki training has trans formative potential for the quality of life in the urban environment in which emergency services personnel live and work. It is imperative to examine and implement Reiki both for new trainees and veteran employees of police, fire and EMS departments, so that these professionals an be equipped with this unique and valuable tool.
