Ms. Bortolami remembered the day a firefighter knocked on her front door in 2001 after being injured in the line of duty while saving the family's home in Andover, MA fighting a chemical fire. He had broken his shoulder and asked Lauren and her husband, to help him fight the town due to an illegal fence placed on a "paper street" that should have been opened for emergency reasons, which he had to jump over.  She never forgot him in a sling and asking for help.  She never forgot.

The Reiki Shoppe is the first local business to offer discounts to Firefighters, Police, EMTs, the US Armed Forces and their immediate family members.

Reiki is a relaxation therapy that is used at Children's, Brigham & Women's, and Jordans' Hospitals, Spaulding Rehabilitation Clinic and Dana Farber Cancer Institute  in Massachusetts by trained nursing and physical therapy staff  pre/post surgery, during medication or procedures, and after chemotherapy.  Reiki reduces stress and  pain, promotes natural healing in the body, and balances the mind, body, and spirit.
